President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) stressed the importance of cross-strait peace and stability to global prosperity at a ceremony marking “Armed Forces Day and All-Out Defense Education Day” (軍人節暨全民國防教育日表揚大會) on Friday, August 30.
He reiterated Taiwan’s commitment to democracy, sovereignty and peaceful development.
President Lai emphasized the important role of the Navy’s 146th Fleet’s (海軍146艦隊) in policing the Taiwan Strait.He emphasized the fleet’s operational readiness; it is ready to spring into action upon receiving orders and often spends more time at sea than on land.
He also acknowledged the vital air defense role of the Air Force’s 1st Tactical Fighter Wing (空軍一聯隊).
Last week, Mr.Lai attended the 66th anniversary of the August 23 artillery battle in Kinmen, where the Ministry of National Defense (MND, 國防部) held a concert to raise awareness among young people about the historic event.
He emphasized Taiwan’s role as a peacekeeping force, adhering to four principles: defending democracy, upholding sovereignty, and ensuring peace across the Taiwan Strait.
President Lai affirmed that Taiwan is a peace-loving country, adding that true peace comes from strength.
He vowed to continue strengthening Taiwan’s self-defense capabilities to demonstrate its resolve to the world.
The national defense budget will increase next year to boost asymmetric warfare capabilities and improve training, equipment and care of troops, aiming to build a modern and powerful force.

上周，賴清德出席了金門 8 月 23 日炮戰 66 周年紀念活動，國防部 （MND） 在那裡舉辦了一場音樂會，以提高年輕人對這一歷史事件的認識。
他強調臺灣軍隊維護和平的角色，堅持捍衛民主、維護主權和確保台海和平四項原則。
