The Netherlands parliament recently passed a motion rejecting China’s distortion of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution 2758, and the Chinese embassy in Netherlands called on the Netherlands to abide by the one-China principle, accusing the motion of distory (ting the UNGA resolution. The Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs severely condemned China’s means of reversing right and wrong on 15th Sept.
Beijing has continued to link UNGA Resolution 2758 with the “one-China principle” in recent years, compressing Taiwan’s space for international participation, according to the Mainland’s China News Network, the Chinese Embassy in Netherlands criticized the Taiwan-related motion passed by the Netherlands parliament on 13th Sept. for “maliciously misinterpreting UN General Assembly Resolution 2758”, and also said that “Taiwan has no basis, reason or right to join the United Nations and other international organizations that only sovereign states can join”.
The Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that she severely condemned China’s long-term distortion of the resolution, invert right and wrong, and now falsely accusing the Netherlands parliament of distorting the motion and reversing right and wrong.
The Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out that China has long maliciously distorted UNGA Resolution 2758 and mistakenly linked it to the “one-China principle”, which in fact only determines the ownership of China’s representation in the United Nations and does not involve Taiwan.
The Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the Republic of China (Taiwan) is a sovereign and independent country and is not subordinate to the People’s Republic of China, which is the current situation in the Taiwan Strait and an objective fact recognized by the international community. Taiwan’s participation in international organizations is a legitimate right, and China has no right to interfere in obstruction.
The Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said that it is grateful to the Netherlands parliament for recently passing the motion to friendly Taiwan and supporting Taiwan’s international participation, and called on the international community to take concrete actions to oppose China’s misinterpretation of UNGA resolution 2758 and refute the fallacy that the so-called “one-China principle” is an international consensus, so as to deter China from trying to unilaterally change the status quo in the Taiwan Strait. Taiwan will work with like-minded countries to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region.
The Netherlands parliament passed a motion involving Taiwan by 147 votes to 3 on the 12th local time, which mentioned the rejection of China’s distortion of UN General Assembly resolution 2758 and asked the Netherlands government to seek support for this position within the European Union (EU).
