In response to China’s claim on Taiwan, the Taiwan’s MOFA put forward “three requirements and one hope”

In response to the claims on Taiwan declared by the Chinese leader at the reception marking the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese government, the Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) today (01/10) in response to media inquiries, in addition to reiterating our four insistences, further put forward “three demands and one hope”, including the demand for maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, the demand for international space, the legitimate rights and interests of participating in international organizations, and the hope that it will no longer interfere with our cheering for Taiwan athletes during the Olympic Games.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping said that Taiwan is China’s sacred territory and reaffirmed his adherence to the one-China principle and the 92 consensus.

The Taiwan’s MOFA reiterated that Taiwan is a sovereign country and is not subordinate to the People’s Republic of China, and Taiwan has never been a part of the People’s Republic of China.

The Taiwan’s MOFA said that at the reception, the Chinese leader said that he wanted to promote the spiritual harmony of compatriots on both sides of the strait, and also said that he hoped for the people of Taiwan, but the Taiwan’s MOFA wanted to tell the people of Taiwan on the other side of the strait about the four insistences, including the liberal and democratic constitutional system.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Liou Yung-Jian said: “We also demand the maintenance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, the due international space, the legitimate rights and interests of participating in international organizations, and we also hope that Taiwan’s athletes will not be disturbed when cheering for the Olympic Games.”

The Mainland Affair Council also solemnly responded to Xi Jinping’s statement, stressing that the CCP takes the so-called one-China principle and the ’92 consensus as the political premise for cross-strait interaction, has no room for Taiwan’s survival, and has long been firmly rejected by Taiwan’s mainstream public opinion, so it calls on the other side of the strait to face up to the reality of the two sides of the strait and the mainstream public opinion in Taiwan, and resolve differences through pragmatic communication and dialogue.
