Under the US-China technology war, the United States has set a ban on the export of advanced semiconductor processes to China, but the TechInsights, a semiconductor research institution, released a report pointing out that after dismantling, it was found that Huawei used TSMC’s 7nm process in the Ascend 910B processor, which caused concern.
In this regard, TSMC pointed out on the 23/10 that TSMC has always been committed to complying with all applicable laws and regulations, including applicable export control regulations, and in order to comply with the requirements of regulations, it will no longer ship to Huawei since mid-September 2020.
TSMC stressed that the company has a complete export control mechanism in place to fully monitor and ensure compliance, and has also taken the initiative to communicate with the United States Department of Commerce on the matters in the report, and is not currently aware of TSMC as the subject of any investigation.
Taiwan’s Minister of Economy Kuo Jyh-huei also stressed when attending the event on the 23/10 that the industry must respect relevant norms.
He said: “We generally have to respect these norms, and we will communicate fully with the industry. (Reporter: Will Taiwan continue to investigate whether there are any doubts about washing the production area?) I haven’t done this so far, this you said the place of origin….? (Reporter: The possibility of washing the origin of chips?) I don’t think I’m going to answer this hypothetical question.'”
TSMC noted that if there are any suspicious circumstances, it will act quickly to ensure compliance with relevant laws, including conducting due diligence and proactively communicating with relevant parties such as customers and competent authorities when needed.

台積電指出，如發現任何可疑情況，將迅速採取行動，確保遵守相關法律，包括進行盡職調查，並在必要時主動與客戶及監管機構等相關單位溝通。
