The United States and Canada warships jointly crossed the Taiwan Strait on 20/10 , and Japanese media pointed out that the purpose of the operation was to contain China. The China’s Eastern Theater Command of PLA said today (21st,Oct) that it would organize naval and air forces to follow and monitor the entire process of the US and Canadian ships’ transit operations, and deal with them in accordance with laws and regulations.
According to the WeChat public account of the Eastern Theater of the PLA, Li Xi, the spokesman for the Eastern Theater, said that the destroyer USS Higgins of United States and the frigate HMCS Vancouver of Canada sailed through the Taiwan Strait and publicly “hyped”.
The PLA’s Eastern Theater organized naval and air forces to monitor and guard the entire process of the transit operation of US and Canadian ships, and dealt with them in accordance with laws and regulations.
Li Xi said that the actions of the United States and Canada have disrupted the situation and undermined peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The troops in the theater are on high alert at all times and resolutely defend national sovereignty, security, and regional peace and stability.
Japan’s Kyodo News Agency reported that the US 7th Fleet said on the 20th that the United States Navy’s Burke-class missile destroyer “Higgins” and the Canada Navy’s Halifax-class cruiser “Vancouver” jointly passed through the Taiwan Strait on 20th of October.
The U.S. Seventh Fleet believes that this is to maintain freedom of navigation in international waters and that its actions are in accordance with international law.
The report said that because China has stepped up military pressure on Taiwan, the purpose of the US and Canadian warships crossing the Taiwan Strait is to contain China.
China carried out the “Joint Sword-2024B” military exercise around the Taiwan Strait on 14/10, focusing on naval and air combat readiness patrols, lockdown and control of key ports and areas, and other projects to test joint combat capabilities. On the same day, four formations of the China Coast Guard carried out law enforcement patrols in the waters around Taiwan Island, and patrolled around Taiwan.
