Richard Sanders, Taipei
The US-Taiwan Business Council (USTBC) today announced that its 9th annual defense delegation will take place May 26-29, 2026. Led by General (Ret.) Charles A. Flynn, the delegation of 41 senior executives is visiting Taiwan to promote expanded bilateral cooperation with the United States and in support of the national security goals of both countries.
The delegation will engage with senior Taiwan government officials responsible for political, military, and security issues, exchanging views on matters ranging from expediting U.S. weapons deliveries to supporting development and production of indigenous platforms and systems. The delegation will also visit think tanks, tour centers of defense innovation, and participate in the public 2026 Taiwan-U.S. Defense Industry Forum.
Delegation head Charlie Flynn last served as Commanding General of United States Army Pacific from 2021 to 2024. He is deeply acquainted with the Indo-Pacific and the national security and defense challenges that the United States confronts in the region.
General Flynn noted,
The conflicts in Europe and the Middle East have made one thing crystal clear: we must integrate conventional and asymmetric capabilities to deter aggression and, if necessary, defeat it decisively. Taiwan cannot afford to wait—they must ready themselves for any cross-Strait contingency.
Our delegation is here to deepen relationships and address capability gaps between the commercial sector and national security needs through cooperation on unmanned systems, distributed joint C2 and fires, innovative logistics, and commercial dual-use partnerships and technologies that strengthen the resilience of our industrial bases. These efforts will enhance interoperability, build joint capacity for the global market, and forge the positional advantage that binds us together and denies success to any adversary. There is no time to waste and I look forward to the work.
USTBC has a long history of supporting defense cooperation between the U.S. and Taiwan dating back to the 1990s. It remains committed to mobilizing American defense industry in support of efforts to maintain peace and security in the Indo-Pacific.
